Brighton & Hove Bathrooms Are Rarely a Standard Size

The housing here does not do off-the-peg. The Regency squares and crescents of Kemptown, Brunswick and central Hove are full of tall, narrow townhouses where bathrooms have been fitted into former dressing rooms, half-landings and rear returns. Preston Park, Fiveways and Poets' Corner are dense Victorian terraces, and the seafront is lined with grand conversion flats where a single original room has been divided several times over.

What that means in practice is that the wall you want your basin on is almost never a clean, standard width. There is a chimney breast in the way, a bay window eating into the plan, a boxed-in soil pipe, or a ceiling that steps down under the stairs. A 600mm shop-bought vanity leaves you with filler panels and awkward gaps. A made-to-measure unit is drawn to the exact width you have — to the millimetre — so the run of stone reads as if the room was designed around it.

Why Sintered Stone Suits a Coastal Home

Two things matter in a Brighton bathroom: it needs to shrug off hard water, and it needs to cope with a humid, salt-air, seaside climate. Sintered stone is fired at over 1200°C into a completely non-porous surface — it does not absorb water, it does not stain, and because the finish is matte and consistent, limescale is far less visible than it is on gloss ceramic. It will not swell, warp or blister in a steamy bathroom the way some cabinet materials can.

It is also a single integrated piece. The countertop and the bowl are formed as one continuous sheet, so there is no silicone joint to discolour and no rim to trap water — a real advantage in a busy Victorian family bathroom or a compact seafront en-suite alike.

What You Can Specify

Every Lave vanity is drawn from your measurements. You choose:

• Width — anywhere from a 700mm cloakroom unit to a 2400mm double-basin run.
• Bowl position — centred, offset to clear a chimney breast or bay, or a twin-bowl layout for a shared bathroom.
• Overflow or no overflow — a cleaner, joint-free bowl if you prefer.
• Cabinet finish — warm oak and walnut through to handleless matte, chosen to sit with the rest of the room.

How It Works if You Are in Brighton or Hove

We are not a walk-in showroom, and you do not need to travel into London. You send measurements (or a rough sketch and a few photos), we draw the unit and send a full quote within 48 hours. Once you approve the technical drawing, your basin is made to your spec and delivered to your Brighton or Hove address ready to install — no on-site cutting of the stone.
